Christopher Hughey, of the 1600 block of Bottlebrush Drive, was charged with battery this weekend after police were called to the home to investigate the woman's claims she was attacked.

Hughey told officers he tried to wake his wife by "gently rubbing her stomach," according to the report.

Hughey said he did that so the woman would get up to cook dinner, the report said.

Instead, the woman -- who told police that Hughey acted hostile -- continued to sleep, police said. Moments later she struck Hughey in the head with an unknown object as he played with their children, police reports show.

Hughey told police he then bit the woman on her shoulder, leaving a red bite mark, according to the police report.

He was taken to the Brevard County Jail and later released.

Palm Bay police reported that the incident happened earlier in March.

Hughey is scheduled to appear in court April 10 in connection with the charge.
