ORLANDO, Fla. -- A bag of popcorn was intentionally set on fire inside a Wal-Mart in Orlando Thursday night, prompting officials to evacuate and close the store, according to authorities.
Fire officials responded to reports of flames inside the Wal-Mart located on Clarcona-Ocoee Road in Orlando Thursday night.
A fire extinguisher was used to stop the fire before there were any injuries, Local 6 reported.
A store manager said she believes the fire was set as a diversion to steal items from the store.
"It is somebody trying to steal food," Wal-Mart manager Tammy Roundtree said. "(It was) somebody trying to get away with something. Please, please, please just pay for yourselves and don't come here stealing."
Police are searching surveillance video at the store trying to determine exactly who lit the fire and their intentions.
Anyone with information about the fire is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
