OCALA, Fla. - A dozen people were arrested on suspicion of delivering drugs and guns to Central Florida via the U.S. Postal Service.
The month-long operation wrapped up last Wednesday and involved numerous law enforcement agencies throughout Central Florida. Twelve people were arrested on various drug and weapons charges, and five firearms, three of which were stolen, were seized, officials said.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office assisted Postal Inspectors in locating suspicious inbound packages at post offices throughout Marion County and then conducted investigations to determine their contents and identify the drug distributors.
During the operation, 20 drug parcels were discovered and an assortment of drugs were recovered, including cocaine, marijuana, synthetic marijuana, prescription medications and ingredients to make Molly, sheriff's officials said.
A news conference providing further details will be held later Wednesday at the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
