COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- A priest who was attacked and beaten in his Cocoa Beach, Fla., church this weekend remains in critical condition Monday, according to Local 6 News.
Police said that Father Sean Heslin, 59, was beaten unconscious inside Our Saviour Catholic Church Friday. A parishioner found Heslin soon after the brutal attack.
He was taken to a Brevard County hospital in critical condition after the attack, according to the report.
"I just couldn't believe it, I could not believe anyone would do such a thing in God's house," church member Kathleen Mylod said.
Authorities said that Robert Rutkowski, 37, allegedly attacked Heslin but the cause of the beating remains a mystery.
Rutkowski has been charged with aggravated battery.
