CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- A fisherman who fell off his boat off Cape Canaveral on Wednesday was rescued by crew members of a casino cruise ship after treading water for more than four hours.
Olin Kennedy was fishing about 12 miles off the coast when he attempted to grab a fishing rod, lost his balance and fell into the water.
Coast Guard spokesman Donnie Brzuska said Kennedy's boat was in gear and moving away from him when he fell in. Kennedy was spotted by crew members of the Ambassador II about four hours later.
Kennedy told Local 6 News that he did not have the boat's kill switch, so he was stranded. He said he took off his pants and waved them around, hoping someone would see him.
"Oh bleep!" Kennedy said when asked what was going through his mind when he saw his boat leaving the area. "Then I said a prayer, and my prayer was answered by Carlos Navarro, who's a hand on the ship. He spotted me. After being in the water for four hours, things were getting a little dreary."
Kennedy was not injured and is OK.
As of Wednesday night, there was no sign of Kennedy's 24-foot boat, Coast Guard officials said.
