WINDERMERE, Fla. -- A man was shot in the leg early Monday morning at the Windermere home of former Orlando Magic player DeShawn Stevenson, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
The shooting happened at 1348 Lake Whitney Drive, which is located in the Reserve at Belmere gated community, at about 4 a.m.
Curtis Ruff, 31, drove himself to Health Central Hospital in Winter Garden seeking treatment for gunshot wounds to his legs at about 4:30 a.m. but would not cooperate with deputies, according to officials.
Sheriff's officials said their investigation has linked Ruff's injuries to the shooting incident at Stevenson's house.
Investigators told Local 6 News that while Stevenson, who now plays for the Washington Wizards, was asleep, Brandon Hunter, a former player with the Orlando Magic, and another man arrived at the house with some women.
Ruff, who officials said has an extensive criminal history, showed up at the house later and a shootout took place, according to sheriff's deputies.
"There was some sort of a dispute or an argument. We know shots were fired because there's bullet holes, there's blood on a car, we've got at least two vehicles shot up as well as bullet holes in the house. Something happened here, but nobody is really willing to tell us exactly what happened," Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jim Solomons said.
No charges have been filed in the incident, and detectives said no arrests were imminent.
"We are aware of the incident. We have spoken with DeShawn and he is fine and was not harmed. We will monitor the situation as this is a continuing investigation being conducted by the authorities in Orlando," Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld said in a statement.
