DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Three racing greyhounds were found dead on Thursday at a Daytona Beach kennel.
The owner and trainer of the dogs, Nelson Lewis Ulrich, of Daytona Beach, could face charges in the deaths, Local 6 News reported.
State officials told Local 6 News that Ulrich faced a suspended license because three dogs tested positive for cocaine in July. The dogs were randomly tested as part of normal oversight of greyhound racing, officials said.
It is not known if the dogs that tested positive for cocaine were the same ones that were found dead.
The dogs found dead may not have been properly cooled down following a race or time trial on Tuesday, officials said.
The dead dogs were sent to the University of Florida for necropsies.
An investigation is under way.
