A Lake Mary police officer on a motorcycle avoided serious injury on Wednesday when a juvenile driving a car swerved and struck him during a pursuit, according to officials.

The officer was performing a speed detail on Main Street in Lake Mary when he pulled a vehicle over, Lake Mary police said.

When the officer approached the driver's window, the vehicle sped off, according to police.

The officer pursued the vehicle, which then swerved and struck him, police said. The officer avoided injury and only suffered a scuff on his boot and motorcycle, according to police.

Winter Springs police disabled the vehicle with stopsticks and caught the driver after he jumped out of the vehicle and began fleeing on foot, Lake Mary police said.
