Police: Pot-Smoking Teens Made Up Invasion Story After Accidental Shooting

POSTED: Monday, September 24, 2007
UPDATED: 9:37 am EDT September 24,2007

A report of a violent home invasion in Orange County that included a teen being shot was fabricated to cover up the accidental shooting, according to investigators.

Orange County sheriff's deputies responded to a home invasion on Wood Violet Drive Saturday night and found Brandon Vazquez, 15, shot.

The teens told deputies that a man broke into the house and tried to rob them.

Deputies immediately launched a search for the suspect, but were not able to find anyone in the area.

After questioning, detectives determined that the teens made up the story because they were smoking marijuana and the gun accidentally went off.

Vasquez is recovering from the shooting Monday.

Charges have not yet been filed, police said.
