A woman in Salem, N.H., was caught on surveillance video allegedly teaching a young boy to steal charity donation jars filled with cash, according to police.
Investigators said the woman is seen with a boy under 10 years old stealing canisters that held donated money for the Mothers Against Drunk Driving organization.
"(The boy) looks very young," police Sgt. Steve Malisos said. "He looks 6 to 7 years old and she is teaching him basically how to commit thefts and commit crimes."
The video shows the woman approach an unmanned register at a liquor store, fidget with some trinkets and then sticks the cash-filled charity canister into her purse, police said.
"It appears as though the young boy was acting as a lookout," Malisos said.
Moments later, surveillance video taken at another nearby register shows the boy grabbing the canister and moving closer to the woman.
"The most disturbing part is that the young boy was there," Malisos said.
The contributions were for an organization teaching children good lessons, like not drinking and driving.
"To steal from a charitable organization is really disappointing," Malisos said.
A representative from MADD released a statement saying, "We are saddened by this alleged theft and hope this incident will not deter those who have donated to our cause from donating in the future."
The woman seen in the video faces up to one year in jail for theft and faces possible child endangerment charges.
