TAVARES, Fla. -- A 65-year-old Lake County woman was raped and her life was threatened during a two-hour attack Sunday night inside her home, according to authorities.
According to Lake County sheriff's investigators, the woman, who lives alone in a house located near the intersection of county Road 473 and U.S. Highway 441 in Tavares, heard a noise inside her home at about 10:15 p.m. and got up from her bed to check it out.
As the woman made her way down the hallway, she said she saw a man wearing what appeared to be a dark hat, a black long-sleeved shirt and dark pants, according to a Lake County sheriff's report. The man was about 5 feet 11 inches tall, but his race and age are unknown, the report stated.
The assailant instructed the woman to close her eyes and not to look at him, and he then took her to her bedroom where he sexually battered her and threatened to kill her, sheriff's deputies said.
The woman was taken to Florida Hospital Waterman, where a physical examination was conducted.
Investigators said they believe the rapist entered the woman's home through a sliding-glass door at the rear of her house.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
