State Representative Charged With Soliciting Undercover Officer

TITUSVILLE, Fla. -- A judge threw out state Rep. Bob Allen's "legislator" statement from the solicitation case against the lawmaker.Brevard County Court Judge Oscar Hotusing in a ruling released on Tuesday said the statement was not relevant to the misdemeanor charge of solicitation for prostitution, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.Titusville police officers said Allen asked if his position as a lawmaker "would help" after they arrested him July 11. Allen is accused of agreeing to pay an undercover officer $20 to perform a sex act.Allen's attorneys said the Merritt Island Republican was misquoted.The statement is not relevant because prosecutors are not charging Allen with any offense of bribery or misuse of authority, Hotusing wrote in his ruling.Allen goes to trial on Monday in Viera.Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
