POINCIANA, Fla. -- An autopsy of a charred body that was found by firefighters in Polk County on Thursday showed that the victim was a female between the ages of 15 and 19 years old, according to officials.
Polk County sheriff's investigators said the girl or woman was a homicide victim but are not releasing how she was killed.
The victim was about 5 feet 5 inches tall and about 105 pounds with light brown- to auburn-colored hair that had red-dye streaks and blue extensions in it. Her eye color could not be determined, and she was either Caucasian, Asian or Hispanic.
The autopsy showed that the victim had had her appendix removed at some point and there was evidence of a belly-button piercing. The victim had a cyst on her right ovary, which may have been causing symptoms for which she was seeking medical treatment. She was wearing Nike cross-trainer tennis shoes, but their color and size could not be determined. There was no other clothing evidence either due to disfiguration of the clothing or lack of clothing.
Polk County sheriff's investigators said they are checking missing-persons reports from Orange and Osceola counties. There is no indication that the victim matches any previously reported Polk County missing-persons cases, investigators said.
The body was found after the Polk County Fire Department responded to a brush fire off Marlin Road, which runs off Mediterranean in a new subdivision without homes off Lake Marion Creek Road. Once the fire was extiguished, the body was discovered.
