Police: Woman Visiting Husband At Prison Had Marijuana-Filled Condoms

POSTED: Monday, November 12, 2007
UPDATED: 1:09 pm EST November 12, 2007

A Central Florida woman visiting her husband in prison on Sunday morning was arrested after she was found with two condoms stuffed with marijuana in her pants, according to officials.

Robin Adkins, 43, was charged with possession of marijuana over 20 grams and introduction of contraband into a correctional facility, both third-degree felonies.

According to Volusia County sheriff's deputies, Adkins was visiting her husband at Tomoka Correctional Institution, a state prison in Daytona Beach, when correctional officers said she was acting suspicious.

During the visit, Adkins went to the bathroom, and when she exited she was walking slowly with her arms clutched to her waist, deputies said. When she sat back down with her husband, officers said she appeared to be trying to remove something from the waistband of her pants.

Adkins was escorted out of the visiting area and taken to a search room, where she turned over two condoms with bags of marijuana stuffed inside them after she was asked if she had any contraband, officials said.

Prison officials called the Volusia County Sheriff's Office to continue an investigation into the incident.

Responding deputies said the marijuana weighed about 65 grams.

Adkins was booked in at the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach and then taken to the Volusia County Correctional Facility, where she was released about four hours later after posting $3,500 bond.
