The teen suffered from a condition called trichophagia which is a compulsive disorder that causes a person to eat hair.

Doctors said a mass began collecting in her stomach and by the time doctors removed it, the hairball weighed 10 pounds and measured 15 inches by 7 inches by 7 inches.

The girl originally went to the doctor complaining of pain and swelling in her abdomen. She said she also vomited after eating and had lost 40 pounds.

Officials said the girl was eating normally again and had stopped eating her hair.

The teen's case was featured in the New England Journal of Medicine.
