Boy Makes 'Miracle' Recovery After Antler Bores Hole In Brain
Connor Schick was on a camping trip with his family this year when he found some deer antlers. The boy was running to show his parents the antler when he tripped and fell. The antler went through his face and into his brain."When he sat back up, he pulled it out himself," mother Melissa Schick said.Doctors thought it was just a small puncture."When they took the patch off his eye, it just swelled to the size of a baseball," the boy's mother said. "My biggest panic was that my baby was going to lose eyesight and he is not going to be able to see. That is something you can't get back."Then, doctors spotted how deep the antler had penetrated the boy's head. Doctorss said brain surgery might be the only option. However, doctors instead tried high doses of antibiotics. With each MRI scan, Connor began to improve."(The hole) kept getting smaller and smaller until the last MRI he had, there was nothing there," Schick said. "Everybody knew him at primary care as the "Deer-Antler Kid" because it was one of those things that does not happen."The child is making a full recovery, doctors said."It is really a miracle," Schick said. "There is no better way to describe it."
