Investigators Try To ID White Woman

POSTED: Thursday, January 3, 2008
UPDATED: 11:39 pm EST January 3, 2008

The body discovered in a wooded area of Daytona Beach Wednesday night by a police officer who noticed a foul smell was a white woman who had probably been there for two months, police said on Thursday.

The woman's age and identity are not known, and the medical examiner will perform an autopsy on Friday to try to identify the victim and the cause of death.

A Daytona Beach police officer on routine patrol noticed an odor just after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in a wooded area near 1650 Hancock Blvd. and discovered the decomposing body.

Investigators spent Thursday at the scene collecting evidence.
