OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. -- A man wearing a red mask ambushed and then groped a 10-year-old girl at a bus stop in Osceola County, according to the sheriff's department.
Investigators said the girl was attacked at the corner of East Highway192 and Nova Avenue in Holopaw on Monday.
"She indicated that an unknown male approached her from behind and started inappropriately touching her," Osceola County sheriff's representative Twis Lizasuain said. "He told her she was not allowed to tell anybody."
The girl told investigators the man let her go just before the bus picked her up at East Highway 192 and Nova Avenue.
"She indicated she walked away from her but he was standing at a nearby corner watching her and he told her that if she told anybody, he would be watching," Lizasuain said. "So, she was very scared."
Deputies interviewed the girl at the Hickory Tree School Annex when she got off the bus and searched for the man.
The girl said the culprit was likely on foot because she didn't see a vehicle. So, investigators are trying to determine if the man lives in the area.
Officers are also looking into the sex offender registry.
"It is very alarming," neighbor Chris Hendrickson said. "We all have children and to think something like that could happen right her in our neighbor, it's scary."
Anyone with information concerning the attack is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
