PALM COAST, Fla. -- A Flagler Palm Coast High School teacher was arrested Monday night on suspicion of sexual conduct with a 16-year-old boy.

Antonio Izquierdo, 38, of 40 LaMancha Drive, in Palm Coast, was charged with two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Izquierdo teaches math and fashion merchandising classes at Flagler Palm Coast High School, where he has been employed for 1½ years. The alleged victim is a student at Flagler Palm Coast High School, officials told Local 6 News.

Flagler County sheriff's detectives said sexual conduct occurred Dec. 19 and Dec. 20. One incident occurred after school hours on the school campus where Izquierdo teaches, and the other incident took place when he was driving the victim home, deputies said.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office said it launched an investigation after the alleged victim came forward during the holiday school break to report Izquierdo's alleged behavior. Flagler County school classes resumed Monday, but Izquierdo was out sick, according to a sheriff's report.

Flagler County School Superintendent Bill Delbrugge said Izquierdo has been suspended, pending the outcome of the investigation.

"This is an unfortunate occurrence. However, our community should know that this school district conducts an extensive background investigation on every faculty member before anyone is placed into a classroom. In this instance, there were no indications of any problems with this teacher," Delbrugge said.

The investigation is ongoing.

"We are asking anyone who feels they may have been victimized by inappropriate actions by Izquierdo to please come forward by contacting our Criminal Investigations Division. This man was placed in a position of trust and he violated that trust," Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming said.
