MELBOURNE, Fla. -- A tip from the FBI to Melbourne police about a security threat led the Rudy Giuliani campaign to cancel his visit to the offices of Harris Corp. and prompted extra security and a sweep at FIT Aviation hangar where the presidential hopeful will be speaking at a press conference.
"A sweep has been conducted," Officer Jeff Blohm of the Melbourne Police Department told Local 6 News partner Florida Today. "Nothing has been found."
Earlier, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office called the incident a bomb threat.
Security at the hangar was tight and a bomb-sniffing police dog was brought to the scene.
Reporters and photographers were asked to leave their electronic equipment at a secured area in the hangar while the equipment is checked.
Earlier in the afternoon, Giuliani abruptly canceled a tour of the Harris Corp. and a "town hall" meeting with employees there.
Giuliani instead remained at the FIT Aviation hangar, where he greeted and spoke to about 400 supporters.
Giuliani, former mayor of New York City, flew in on a chartered plane with about 10 passengers. He came to Brevard County from Jacksonville, where he met with the editorial board of the Jacksonville Times-Union.
He is still expected to go to Florida Today to meet with the newspaper's editorial board before leaving Brevard County for a rally in Palm Beach.
