Cleveland Teacher Talks About Brutal Attack

Teacher: Guard Was Holding My Head Together After Attack

A local teacher recovering from a brutal attack in school is speaking out about the incident.

Jim Cappetto suffered a broken neck and a fractured skull. His career in the classroom is over.

The South High School teacher was breaking up a fight between two groups of kids at school last week when someone attacked him with brass knuckles.

He said a security guard found him unconscious and had to hold his head together until emergency crews arrived.

Since his injuries won't allow him to return to the classroom, the students have lost a dedicated teacher.

"It isn't about respect, it's about something that is much more greater than that -- love," Cappetto said.

He will be in a neck brace for the next 13 weeks.

Cappetto said he does not believe South High students are responsible for his injuries, but outsiders who snuck into the school.
