MELBOURNE, Fla. -- A high school video surveillance system helped authorities track down two men suspected of breaking into Eau Gallie High School's vending machine, ROTC room and other offices, according to Melbourne police.
Christopher R. Cherny, 23, of Palm Bay, and Mark Robert Wyatt, 37, were both being held at the Brevard County Jail in Sharpes after they were charged with multiple counts of molesting a vending machine, grand theft and armed burglary, trespassing on school grounds and possession of burglary tools, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.
According to police reports, two people broke into Eau Gallie High School, located at 1400 Commodore Lane, Jan. 13.
Eau Gallie High Principal Tom Sawyer said more than $1,000 was stolen from the vending machines and two laptops and a digital camera were stolen from the ROTC room.
The duo was on the campus for more than 90 minutes and were tracked on four videos in the cafeteria and six hallway cameras, Sawyer said.
Police found the two men in the area of Lagoon and Grove Lane two days later, and they were arrested, booked and taken to the county jail.
The videotape was taken as evidence.
Cherny was given a $198,000 bond, and Wyatt was issued a $197,000 bond. Their next court date is Feb. 22.
