Mom In Phone Video Beating Can See Boy

Judge Allows Visits If Guardian Gives OK

A judge ruled on Tuesday that a mother who is allegedly shown on a cell phone video hitting her baby can visit the 13-month-old if the boy's relative who has been granted temporary custody approves it.

Officers said Aisha Bowen, an 18-year-old day care worker, was videotaped by her roommate striking her son, who was 10 months old at the time of the incident.

The phone was recently sold and the new owner noticed the video and immediately contacted Ocala police. Investigators checked the video and then arrested Bowen at her workplace, Kids Zone day care.

Bowen said she was simply disciplining her child and not abusing him.

"I took him by his arm and he was standing up and I beat him on his butt," Bowen said. "If my son was ever taken away from me, things would never be the same."

Bowen was charged with child abuse and ordered not to have contact with her son.

The video has not been released by Ocala police.
