Fla. Man Arrested For 101st Time

POSTED: Thursday, February 7, 2008

A group of suspected drug dealers recently arrested in Putnam County includes one man who has been arrested more than 100 times.

Alger Scott was arrested for the 101st time on Wednesday.

"We have a policy in our office, and have had for a long time, that if you deal drugs and we catch you and can prove the case, we're going to be seeking a state prison sentence. The sentencing is up to the judges," explained state attorney John Tanner.

In addition to Scott, 50 other suspected drug dealers were arrested as result of a yearlong police investigation called Operation Rock Star.

Police said the operation got its name because the drug mostly involved was crack cocaine, also called rock, and all of their suspects were called stars because police said the drug exchanges were all caught on camera.

WJXT's cameras were rolling when one woman was arrested. Police said she was caught selling drugs to undercover officers.

"Once we get the word on the street that we're arresting people, people that are known drug dealers they may have a hunch that we're out looking for them," said Detective Todd Davis.

More than 50 percent of the 91 suspects in Operation Rock Star were taken into custody, but officers said the suspects not arrested Wednesday still have warrants on file and will eventually be taken into custody.

Sheriff Dean Kelly also warned the people who have been buying drugs, saying Operation Rock Star was just the beginning of their mission to clean up the streets.

"If you're out there buying drugs, we're coming after you too because it's supply and demand. We're dealing with the supply today, and we're going to deal with the demand in the future," Kelly said.

Police said because the drug exchanges investigated by Operation Rock Star were caught on camera there is strong evidence against them and many of the suspects caught could face up to 20 years in prison.
