BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. -- Parents of a 2-year-old boy found their son dead inside a hope chest used to store linens in his bedroom, in what Brevard County sheriff's deputies said appears to be a tragic accident.
Sheriff's deputies said they responded to a home on Green Road near Rockledge at about 7 a.m. after the boy's father called 911.
Brevard County sheriff's detectives said the boy was found in a "wooden hope chest" in a bedroom the boy shared with his 6-year-old brother.
The 6-year-old told detectives that it was not uncommon for his brother to take the linens out of the chest and sit inside it to watch TV.
Detectives said they believe that the 2-year-old climbed into the chest after his parents put their children to bed, closed the top and suffocated, but an investigation into the death is under way.
No foul play is suspected, Brevard County sheriff's detectives said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
