High School Calls Every Student To Detention

Error Caused By Phone System Glitch

More than 2,500 students at a Central Florida high school were incorrectly informed by an automated telephone system that they had weekend detention.

The glitch affected students at Palm Bay High, with the message telling students that they had to report for Saturday morning detention.

Instead of calls going to just 16 homes, the parents or guardians of all 2,550 students received the message.

The glitch has not yet been identified, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.

At least 40 students showed up Saturday morning, only to be informed of the error.

"I really feel bad that it happened," said Principal John Thomas. "It was just too late at 9:30 at night when we found out about it to call everyone back. But Saturday, I sent an apology on the system."
