UPDATED: 5:16 pm EST February 25, 2008

Police in Titusville, Fla., are searching for a hit-and-run driver who T-boned a motorcycle rider, launching the driver 30 feet into the air and nearly killing him.

Officers said they attempted to pull over a maroon four-door vehicle at the intersection of DeLeon and South Street in Titusville for a traffic violation.

During the attempt the vehicle is seen speeding through a red light and hitting motorcyclist Charles Udo, police said.

Udo flew 30 feet in the air and landed in a front yard. He survived the crash but has permanent injuries.

Seconds after the collision, video showed the driver and another person getting out of the maroon vehicle and fleeing on foot.

"They just didn't care running this guy over and just taking off the way they did," Titusville Detective Victor Rodriguez said. "The next time it could be somebody's family. So, the sooner we get them off the streets the better."

The car was found loaded with marijuana and cocaine, police said.

Detectives said the vehicle was not reported stolen and the listed owner, Jerrel Brothers, said he wasn't behind the wheel and would not answer any questions by detectives.

The driver of the vehicle is described at as a black male in his early 20s, weighing around 170 pounds.

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
