ORLANDO, Fla. -- A 50-year-old DeLand woman is accused of selling sick and near-death cats and dogs to unsuspecting customers in Florida and throughout the country.
Cheryl Lee Tyler, who operates the Web site Tiny-Toyz.com, was arrested on suspicion she was selling the sick animals.
Tyler was taken into custody and charged with grand theft, felony identity theft for allegedly using false names and using a fraudulent health certificate after the customer complaints.
Texas customer Joyce Phillips told Local 6 that she paid $1,400 for a female hairless kitten that arrived gravely ill.
Phillips said the kitten was diagnosed with ear mites, a heart murmur and a viral infection. And the female turned out to be a male, she said.
"It makes me unhappy that there are people who do those sorts of things," Phillips said. "I was very embarrassed because you hear about those people who get ripped off online and here I was one of those people."
Also, a Central Florida couple said they purchased a hairless cat from Tyler and it surprisingly grew hair.
Tyler remains in the Lake County Jail Tuesday.
