ORLANDO, Fla. -- An Orlando middle-school teacher was arrested Monday on suspicion of soliciting sex from a 14-year-old student, authorities said.
James Stafford, 25, a teacher at Corner Lake Middle School, is being held at the Orange County Jail on no bond.
According to Orange County sheriff's investigators, Stafford got the student's phone number off a piece of paper that she passed to another student in class on Feb. 26.
Stafford sent the student several text messages, and the following day, the student, who suspected that Stafford sent the messages, called him from her cell phone in class, investigators said. According to Orange County sheriff's deputies, the student said Stafford answered his phone and she went to the principal's office and showed administrators the messages, which were sexual in nature.
"Different sex acts: 'Do you like sex? Have you ever done it with a teacher before? How to get a better grade in the class? To perform sex acts.' Things of that nature," Orange County sheriff's Sgt. Rich Mankewich said.
Investigators said Stafford admitted that he sent the messages.
Stafford, who has been teaching at Corner Lake since August, has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
Investigators said Stafford has a wife who is pregnant.
