Man Reels In 13-Foot Hammerhead Shark

Scientists Will Study Animal

In what may be the biggest catch in Florida waters in years, a man reeled in a 13-foot, 1,000-pound hammerhead shark Wednesday off Singer Island.

Fritz Van Der Grifd said the shark gave him quite a struggle.

"I saw that huge shadow and I was like, 'I can't believe it.' So I just grabbed the reel and started reeling," Van Der Grifd said.

A scale used to weigh the shark stopped working, so another one had to be used.

"I'm in shock. I can't get over how big that shark is," a bystander said.

"I think it's about the biggest shark I've ever seen," another man said.

Scientists will study the massive creature, Local 6 News reported.

Singer Island is located north of West Palm Beach.
