Flea-Covered Puppies Found Bleeding

Woman Charged With Cruelty To Animals

UPDATED: 9:39 am EST March 7, 2008

A woman was arrested on a charge of animal cruelty after officials seized four puppies from her Brevard County property because they were covered in mange and fleas and bleeding from the mouth.

Michelle Wright, of Cocoa, was charged with one count of cruelty to animals, a misdemeanor. She bonded out of the Brevard County Jail Complex Wednesday night, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.

Animal Services officers went to Wright's house on Tuesday to follow up on an investigation two months ago in which Wright was ordered to care for her puppies that were in such poor shape, they needed to be treated professionally or be put down immediately.

Police said Animal Services employees reported that Wright did not get the professional care but rather allowed the puppies to suffer.
