FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- A 27-year-old man is accused of stabbing three people during a drinking game called "beer pong" at a Fernandina Beach home.
"They got into an argument over, possibly, some money," Fernandina Beach Police Capt. David Bishop said. "There was alcohol involved -- possibly drugs. These people were asked to leave. They didn't leave, got into a fight, and then somebody pulled a knife."
According to police, Daniel White pulled the knife. He was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, WJXT-TV reported.
Police say five people, including White, were treated at Nassau Baptist Hospital for stab wounds or lacerations resulting from the fight.
The most seriously wounded victim -- Grant Lester, 21 -- was stabbed at least eight times. He was flown by air ambulance to the trauma center at Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center, where he was reported in critical condition.
Two other victims were treated and released from Baptist-Nassau.
Officials said the fight broke out about 5:30 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 200 block of South Fletcher Avenue.
A 19-year-old told WJXT's Laura Mazzeo he was at the party and everyone was having fun, but he went to bed several hours before the fight broke out. He found out about it when the police woke him up and took him downtown for questioning.
"Everyone ... was having a good old time," Josh Brown said. "The next think I know (Lester) got stabbed."
White is being held in the Nassau County Jail on $75,000 bond.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement assisted Fernandina Beach detectives in processing the crime scene.
Police are also investigating reports of underage drinking at the party.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Detective Tracey Hamilton at 904-277-7342, ext 247.
