Dog Left In Crate For Months Found Dead

Woman Left Dog At Home After Moving Out, Police Say

A dog was found dead in a crate inside a Brevard County home after a neighbor called authorities saying that the animal had not been seen in two months, police said.

Christine Dawn Abrams, 29, was arrested Thursday and faces a felony charge of cruelty to animals.

According to Cocoa police, a neighbor of Abrams, who lived in the 1100 block of Peachtree Street, said it was unusual not to see Abrams for any length of time, so she peered into a window of the home and saw the dog dead inside a crate.

Cocoa police began searching for Abrams, whom neighbors said spent a lot of time walking and playing with the dog, and located her at a home on Parapet Drive, less than 6 miles from her former residence.

Abrams told Cocoa police that the water had been turned off at the home, so she moved out. Abrams said her new roommate did not like dogs, so she left the animal at the home, according to police. She last checked on the dog Jan. 18, police said.

Abrams showed no remorse over the dog, a Cocoa police investigator said.

Police said a large bag of dog food was located a few feet from the dog's crate.

Abrams is being held in the Brevard County Jail on $1,000 bond.
