ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- A break-in early Monday at a baseball card shop in Orange Park left the owner without one of his prized possessions: a 1952 Mickey Mantle baseball card.
The card alone is worth $30,000, according to the manager at Dan's Sports Cards.
Manager J.J. McCormick said burglars broke into the store in the 2100 block of Kingsley Avenue by throwing a brick into the business overnight, WJXT reported. McCormick said before that, power was cut to the entire strip mall.
The 1952 Topps baseball card was part of a set; the set is valued at approximately $90,000. McCormick said the total loss is $100,000.
According to a major collector's Web site, the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card is considered to be the most valuable post-war sportscard.
McCormick said the store's owner, Dan Williams, wants to offer a reward for the return of the cards.
