COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- The mother of a 5-year-old who was killed following a vehicle crash in April was charged by police on Wednesday in his death.
Kimberly Ann Rodeghier, 27, was being held in the Brevard County Jail in Sharpes on one count of vehicular homicide. Her bond was set at $150,000, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.
According to Cocoa Beach police, Ethan Rodeghier was ejected when his mother lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a Sandcastles Condominium wall in the 900 block of N. Atlantic Avenue.
The crash sent Ethan through the windshield, police said. He was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital in Orlando and was pronounced dead a short time later.
Witnesses told police Rodeghier was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control of her vehicle while overtaking other vehicles.
Police said the child was not wearing a seat belt and he was not strapped into a booster or child car seat, which is required by state law. Ethan suffered head trauma and multiple injuries.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement reported Rodeghier's blood-alcohol content at the time of the crash was .058 percent along with the presence of two forms of narcotics. The legal intoxication limit is .08 percent.
