A Cocoa auto parts store received a delivery on Wednesday morning it was not expecting.

At about 9 a.m., a passing motorist wheeled into the parking lot of the Advanced Auto Parts store at 806 Dixon Blvd. and gave birth to a baby girl.

A customer who had just arrived at the store saw what was happening and alerted one of the assistant managers, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.

"I called 911," said Nicole Laskowski, as fellow assistant manager Christine Hartman ran out to assist.

"I grabbed some microfiber towels off the shelf and ran out there," Hartman said. "I wrapped (the baby) up because it's cold out, made sure (the baby) was breathing, wiped (the baby) off, and cleaned (the baby's) face and mouth. That was it."

Hartman said the mother and the baby appeared to be OK.

If Hartman seemed unfazed by the event, it's because she is a student at the Cocoa campus of Brevard Community College, where she is studying to become a nurse.

Cocoa Police Department Detective Barbara Matthews said the birth occurred before emergency units could arrive.

"I feel good about (helping with the delivery)," she said.
