ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando police officers will soon have a new high-tech license plate recognition system that quickly scans vehicles and helps track down criminals on city roadways.
The new scanners will be installed on cruisers, offering officers the ability to immediately tell whether a vehicle has been stolen or has an invalid plate.
The reader can scan hundreds of plates an hour, according to the report.
Information gathered by the system is transmitted to a national database and analyzed.
The software will also alert officers if a driver is wanted for a crime.
The technology is also being used in Daytona Beach, Local 6 reported.
