About 70,000 people are expected to attend World Wrestling Entertainment's biggest event of the year, WrestleMania 24, and bring in at least $25 million into the local economy.

Fans have traveled from as far as Scotland to see the event.

"(I've been) watching wrestling for about 10 years and I've never been to a live event before," Scottish fan Michael McCann said. "I finally got an opportunity to come out here, so I took it."

WWE announcer "Mean" Gene Okerlund was in Orlando Thursday night for the pre-event festivities.

"(Fans) come not only from the United States, our domestic market, but they come from throughout the world," Okerlund said.

Downtown businesses said they are already seeing a spike in customers.

"You can look at Wall Street and see a lot of people out," bar owner Will Tharpe said. "I'm sure the weekend will be just the same."

"This is definitely a great family event," Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said. "A lot of people grew up watching wrestling from Florida and we are pretty excited about having this event."

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
