CLERMONT, Fla. -- Incendiary devices made from beer bottles struck a Mount Dora police car and a house, burning the unoccupied home and the back end of the vehicle, officials said.
An off-duty Mount Dora police officer said he was awakened at about 2 a.m. by a noise outside of his home, which is located in an unincorporated area of Lake County east of Clermont.
The officer said he looked outside and saw his marked car, which was parked in his driveway, on fire with the trunk area engulfed in flames. The officer extinguished the fire with a garden hose while awaiting the arrival of the Lake County Fire Department.
A home across the street from the officer's house was also hit with what appeared to be the same type of device, authorities said. The house suffered minor damage.
There is no known connection between the police car arson and the house incident, authorities said.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office, Lake County Fire Department and the State Fire Marshall's office are investigating the incident.
