Woman Accused Of Kidnapping Baby Had Alias, Different Social Security Numbers

A woman accused of kidnapping a newborn from a busy Central Florida hospital had at least two alias and two different Social Security numbers, Local 6 confirmed Monday.

Jennifer Latham, 39, is accused of smuggling a newborn out of Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford on Friday. A short time later, she was taken into custody on Interstate 4 by a Lake Mary officer and the baby was found unharmed.

However, a day after she allegedly committed the crimes, Seminole County Judge Ralph Eriksson ordered Latham released from custody.

'I think (the judge) made one hell of a mistake," said Gregory Pastor, a family member of the child Latham allegedly tried to kidnap. "The judge's decision really bothers me. There is something wrong there."

Two weeks ago, Sheriff Don Eslinger asked judges to considered electronic monitoring in non-violent cases as a way to reduce overcrowded jails.

Latham was set to be released from jail Monday if officials could find a GPS bracelet. She must wear a device on her ankle so authorities can keep track of her movements.

Investigators are checking Latham's alias and Social Security number to determine if she has a criminal history under a different name.

911 Call Disconnected

Meanwhile, a 911 call made from Central Florida Regional Medical Center to police was initially disconnected for some reason.

When the 911 operator called the hospital back, she was sent through a maze of people before finally getting the information she needed to alert police, Local 6 reported.

The calls were released by police Monday.
