A manta ray-themed roller coaster confirmed by SeaWorld Orlando officials Tuesday would apparently dip riders into a lagoon during the thrill ride.

"It's the most significant attraction in SeaWorld history," said SeaWorld Orlando spokeswoman Becca Bides. "We look forward to making an official announcement in May."

The official announcement of the roller coaster may be coming in May, but several concept art images of the attraction have been featured on theme park and fan Web sites.

The ride images show coaster cars winding over water at the theme park with riders splashing into a lagoon while facing down.

Bides had no comment on the accuracy of renderings released to various Web sites.

The ride is rumored to be called "Manta," featuring a sting-ray theme.

SeaWorld officials have promised that the new attraction will be more than a coaster, the ioacenteral.com Web site reported.

Local 6 showed images of the ride Tuesday.

The new attraction is expected to open at SeaWorld in 2009, the Local 6 report said.
