NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- A man flirting with a co-worker outside a Central Florida restaurant on Tuesday night was stabbed with a pocketknife by the woman's live-in boyfriend, authorities said.
Petronillo Quiahua-Perez, 27, was arrested on charges of aggravated battery and misdemeanor battery in the stabbing of Eliz Campos, 25, at Mi Mexico Restaurant in New Smyrna Beach.
Campos suffered a laceration to the abdomen and was taken to Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach.
According to Volusia County sheriff's deputies, Campos was flirting with the woman when Quiahua-Perez arrived to pick up his girlfriend. Quiahua-Perez became angry and started a verbal altercation with Campos, deputies said. Quiahua-Perez continued to confront Campos, shoved him and stabbed him, deputies said.
Quiahua-Perez then fled the restaurant, deputies said.
Two co-workers drove Campos to the hospital, and deputies were called.
Quiahua-Perez was arrested at his home in New Smyrna Beach at about 11:40 p.m. Deputies said he still had the bloody knife in his pocket.
Quiahua-Perez was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.
