TAMPA, Fla. -- A man fishing golf balls out of a pond at a Tampa country club was attacked by an 8-foot alligator over the weekend.
Dwight Monreal, 62, was wading in a pond at the Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club Saturday afternoon when the alligator bit his his left arm and tried to drag him underwater.
Authorities said he was able to wrestle himself free, but he suffered a dislocated shoulder and several puncture wounds where the animal bit him.
"The man had actually dragged himself up to the bank and had his arm kind of in the water where the gator was trying to drag him down," witness Tarah McNaughton said.
A trapper caught the alligator at the club on Sunday.
Trapper Julie Harter said she's sure it was the alligator that attacked Monreal because it was the only alligator in the area. Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
