7 Baby Ducks Rescued From Storm Drain

Residents Reunite Babies With Mother

POSTED: Tuesday, April 29, 2008
UPDATED: 5:01 pm EDT April 29, 2008

Seven baby ducks were rescued from a storm drain on Sunday by Marion County Fire Rescue technicians.

Dispatchers received a non-emergency call at about 9 a.m. from a citizen who reported that the baby ducks were trapped about 18-feet down a storm drain in the 100 block of Turtle Creek Street in Marion County.

Residents said they thought to call Marion County Fire Rescue after reading recent news reports about how firefighters rescued a foal named Shooter from an old septic tank in Citra.

Firefighters lowered a 24-foot extension ladder down into the storm drain, and Max Riddle pulled the seven baby ducks to safety.

Once brought to safety, the firefighters gave the baby ducks to the residents in the area, who then reunited them with their mother and returned them to their home at a nearby pond.
