Jack Eugene Hildreth, 50, told a dispatcher that he had been bitten by one of his snakes at 1620 Northwest St. in Bushnell. Hildreth was apparently feeding the cobra a mouse when he was bitten on the hand, according to reports.

He was transported by EMS to Leesburg Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's venom-response team flew in 20 vials of antivenin to Orlando for the man.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials are investigating the incident but they have not been able interview Hildreth because he has been unconscious.

Hildreth received a permit from Fish and Wildlife to possess the snake.
