GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- One of the University of Florida's top football recruits -- who enrolled at the school in January -- was shot in the shoulder Friday night at a Tampa-area park.
Matt Patchan suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery after the incident at Sadie Park in Brandon, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.
"Matt Patchan was a gunshot victim Friday night in a Tampa-area park," Florida football Coach Urban Meyer said in a statement Monday morning. "He was a bystander and shot in the left shoulder and is expected to fully recover in three weeks."
Patchan, whose father was a standout at Miami, was impressive in spring drills after moving from the offensive line to the defensive front, Florida Today reported.
Patchan, who is 6 feet 6 inches tall and 238 pounds is expected to go into the fall competing for a starting defensive tackle job.
Patchan attended Armwood High School in Seffner.
