SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A 2-year-old fell from a California State Fair ride, and it was all caught on videotape.
A fairgoer, shooting images from his Monday night fair adventure, captured the incident of Demauri Jones falling from a ride and landing on the pavement.
"I felt completely helpless. I couldn’t reach him. He was too high up. We were screaming for help and for them to stop the ride," said Demauri's mother, Jackie Jones.
The Vacaville child suffered cuts, scrapes and bruises.
Jones said that ride investigators called her Tuesday morning and told her that one reason Demauri could have fallen was because the height requirement on the ride had been marked incorrectly. The ride said it was supposed to be 36 inches, but the manufacturer says that it should be 42 inches.
Jones' friend, Faye Miller, said that she was angry over the emergency response, including the way the ride operator scooped up a child who could have been injured.
"We're waiting 15, 20 minutes for an onsite first aid to get there. I mean, they're on site. Why does it take 15 or 20 minutes for them to get there? It just didn't make any sense. We had to get our own ice pack," Miller said.
State Fair officials have reviewed the videotape, but they say that they will not make any formal statements until the conclusion of a comprehensive investigation.
The ride was closed Tuesday while the investigation continued.
Jones went to the hospital for a CAT-scan Tuesday that showed his brain was not injured. She plans to take her son in for an MRI later this week to be sure there was no damage.
