A Brevard County sheriff's deputy was transported to a hospital following a scuffle Thursday morning with a defendant at the Titusville Historic Courthouse, a courthouse spokeswoman said.

According to an officer on the scene, the incident happened at about 10 a.m. during a hearing in Judge Charles Holcomb’s courtroom, spokeswoman Michelle Kennedy told Local 6 News partner Florida Today.

A defendant who was being taken into custody began struggling with two deputies.

"The situation was quickly brought under control," Kennedy said.

One deputy was being transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, she said. The other was treated at the scene.

No further details were available.
