Family Identifies Man Rescued From Backhoe Buried In 20 Tons Of Soil
The family of Eric Meeks confirmed to Local 6 News that he was the victim in the Friday morning incident at Double D Crushers, located at 12608 Avalon Road near Winter Garden.Meeks, 29, was conscious when he was airlifted to a hospital following the rescue. His condition is not known.Meeks is a father of three, according to his family.Rescuers used an Orange County Fire Department vacuum truck and a trench-rescue unit from the fire department at SeaWorld to free the man."Rescue workers used wood planks to keep more dirt and crushed concrete from falling on on the victim as they tried to free him," Local 6's David Sprung said.The cause of the collapse is not known, and an investigation into the incident is under way.Authorities originally said a crane collapsed under crushed concrete.Watch Local 6 News and stay with Local6.com for more on this developing story.
