Boy Witnesses Parents' Fatal Fight

POSTED: Friday, June 6, 2008
UPDATED: 1:38 pm EDT June 6, 2008

A Central Florida boy watched his parents fight until both ended up dead, police said.

Investigators said a 14-year-old called 911 from a home on Barr Street in Oviedo Thursday night after a fight between his parents escalated into gunfire.

"(The boy) indicated to us over the phone who was the one holding gun, who was being shot and where that shot was," Seminole County sheriff's representative Dennis Lemma said.

When officers arrived at the house, they found the bodies of Peggy and Daryl Brooks in the yard.

"It is devastating," neighbor Russell Mould said. "I can't believe that happened. I've never seen them fight or anything."

The couple's son was put in the care of child protective services while they try to find out-of-state relatives.

"There is no doubt about it, this child was not physically harmed but the psychological trauma he went thorough today is just unbelievable," Lemma said.

Witnesses said Daryl Brooks owned a business and Peggy worked in an emergency room, Local 6's Jessica D'Onofrio said.

A weapon was found near the body of Daryl Brooks, police said.
